Miniature Sicilian Donkey

(Lord Buckley, Lady Buckley, Baby Buckley & Pippi Longstocking)

Hello my name is Pippi Longstocking. I was named Pippi because of the long stockings on my front legs. I have an older sister named Baby Buckley, who looks just like me, except she doesn't have stockings like I do! We look just like our dad, Lord Buckley. Lady Buckley, our mom, is a beautiful, brown donkey and she has the markings of a cross on her back. My family loves living here at Windy Hill Ranch.

Sicilian Donkeys originally came from Sicily , an island off the coast of Italy . There's a very interesting story about how and why the miniature donkeys first came to America . There was a man in America who had a handicapped son. While this man owned many racehorses, he was sad because his son was not able to ride and play with them. One day when his father was in Sicily , he saw these little donkeys and knew right away they would be the perfect gift for his son. So he arranged for a whole herd to be brought to America just for his son. Can you imagine how happy this must have made this little boy?

Mini donkeys are very affectionate and loving. We make great pets because we are very gentle and just love humans. Have you ever heard a donkey bray? It's how we communicate with each other and it can be very, very noisy, but a lot of fun, too. Hee Haw - Hee Haw. Isn't that a great way to say "hello"?

During the daytime my donkey family stays in a pasture with the miniature horses. At first I thought they were donkeys like me, but then I noticed they don't have nice long ears like we do. They also don't know how to bray. Isn't that sad?

Did you know that donkeys are a little scared of dogs? Actually, I kind of like dogs, but my mom taught me to leave them alone, and even to chase them away if they get too close. I have a lot to learn about being a donkey!

Answer: If you picked "B"... BRAYING, you are correct!

A donkey's sound is called a bray, but we know it more like a Hee-Haw.
