Pigs

(Helen, Napoleon & Pixie)

Helen

Hello, my name is Helen. I am a farm pig. People describe me simply as huge! My two best friends are pot-belly pigs. Their names are Napoleon; he's black, and Pixie, who's mostly pink. We happily live the pig's life here at Windy Hill Ranch. We get to sleep in a nice, clean stall every night and in the morning we go out to our very own pasture. Sometimes, before I go out to the pasture, I do a little bit of training with Nathalie, our trainer. It's lots of fun and she tells me all the time what a smart girl I am. Pigs learn things very quickly. After I am done with my training, it's off to the pasture where I join my friends for a day of hog heaven! (Pigs are also called hogs.)

When it's a very hot day, the first thing I like to do is hit the mud puddle. It feels so good to my skin. You see, pigs can't sweat as humans do, so the only way we can keep cool is by covering our bodies in mud. The mud also protects our skin from insects and keeps us from getting sunburned. Pigs don't have a lot of hair, so we need all the protection we can get! Sometimes, when it's especially hot, my trainer puts sunscreen on my ears.

When we're not lounging in the mud, we spend the day rooting around the pasture. Pigs love to eat roots. We have a rooting bone in our noses that helps us dig the delicious roots out of the ground.

Another one of our favorite things is a really good tummy rub. We like it so much, that we immediately lay down on the ground to enjoy every minute of it. We usually fall right to sleep, grunting the whole time. Oh, such is the life of a pig. It's a good life. Wouldn't you agree?

FUN Animal Fact: Did you know ...

Pigs are just as intelligent as dogs on any animal- IQ scale.

Pixie

Answer: If you said "B"... FALSE, you are right!

Pigs are very intelligent. Just as intelligent as a dog. They are also very clean animals. When they go in the mud, it's to stay cool and protect their skin, not to get dirty. Their stall is also the cleanest at Windy Hill Ranch.
